About the event

We’ve entered a time of great awakening and rebirth, while still facing the daily realities of the crumbling top-down systems – the residue of which can be daunting. These energies can be lessened and removed entirely by rattling.

Rattles have been used by virtually every culture since time immemorial.  Healers, medicine people, wisdom keepers, shamans, and visionaries have  historically carried these sacred objects, tools of their trade.

Today we are invited, encouraged, to carry these tools too, to be our own  healers and wisdom keepers. Each rattle, unique to the maker, is  supportive of our personal path and process. A tool used for clearing and cleansing, calling in our ancestors and guides, for journey work, and for the joy of sound.

Our holistic health – mind, body, and spirit – is improved with the practice of rattling.

Words from facilitator Barbara: "I was taught by my elders that the crafting of every  sacred object is a ceremony. Our work will be held in a container of  respect for that tradition and commitment. Honoring the teachings, the  land, the original people, the animal and plant spirits we’ll be working with, the invisible ones who come to help, I’ll guide you through the rattle crafting process."

Preparing the rattle handle may include small non-electric hand tools, sanding wood and bee’s wax. Cutting and sewing the rawhide (animal skin), every  stitch becomes a prayer. Finding the voice that resonates with your own energetic body. Bringing it all together, you will take home a completed rattle.

“Ceremony holds the sacred within the mundane to create a bridge between the seen and the unseen.”     ~ Grandmother Sarah

Midwifing your ceremony: Barbara  Ocskai, she/her. Having been steeped in ceremonial ways, traditional earth medicine crafting and teaching for nearly two decades, sitting  with many teachers, it is my honor and privilege to be invited to hold this space in service of your rattle crafting ceremony.

“Barbara  Ocskai has facilitated both rattle making and drum birthing workshops at the Bodhi Center on Bainbridge and each workshop has been filled with  reverence and fun, creativity and community. Word is spreading and  another drum workshop is coming by popular demand. Barbara is a joy to  work with on every level. I can’t recommend her highly enough!”  ~Elizabeth
